20% more passengers than in 2007 at the Port of Málaga

Cruise travel registered significant growth in Málaga City last year. A total 352,875 passengers came to the city on 268 cruise liners. Thus, a year after the Estación Marítima de Levante (East Maritime Station) and its South Dock were inaugurated, the Port of Málaga sees a year-over-year increase of 20.61% in the number of passengers.

The Tourist Board presents important marketing project for inland travel at FITUR

The Costa del Sol Tourist Board has presented an important hinterland travel marketing project. It is aimed at giving a boost to Málaga’s interior and the companies operating in the area by increasing sales, number of visitors, hotel stays, and profits in general. The project was presented in a press conference held by our President, Salvador Pendón, and the Director of Más Natura, Julián Riego.

Hotel Occupancy Rates

In October 2008, 415,886 travellers stayed in accommodation facilities on the Costa del Sol. This is 1.50 pct less than in October 2007, when the region’s hotels accommodated 422,209 guests.

The Tourist Board, ready for FITUR 2009

Once again this year, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board has been present in Madrid’s International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR, held at the Juan Carlos I Fairground from 28 January to 1 February. In this edition of FITUR –nº 29–, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board had a 402-square-metre stand in Pavilion 3, dedicated to the travel offer of Andalusia.

Bobastro Ruins

Located some four kilometres away from the village of Ardales in a place known as Mesas de Villaverde, this archaeological site contains the remains of different constructions from the 9th century –a palace, a necropolis, and a Mozarabic church, dug out of the rock. The site was used by Mullawad leader Umar Ibn Hafsun to plan his revolt against the Ummayad Caliphate in Córdoba.
