Search Engine Marketing - Pay-per-click (PPC) Advertising

The travel industry was one of the sectors with the heaviest investment in Search Engine Marketing in the first six months of 2006. Public organisations such as the Costa del Sol Tourist Board or Turismo Andaluz, travel agencies like eDreams or Viajes Marsans, hotel chains, e.g. Sol Meliá and NH Hoteles, and airlines such as easyJet or Lufthansa are but a few examples of the institutions that have carried out PPC advertising campaigns this year.

Andalusian Government allocates 600,000 euros to Andalusian Tourism Innovation Centre

600,000 euros will be provided by the Andalusian Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Sports to set up the Andalusian Tourism Innovation Centre (CINNTA). This initial 2006-2007 investment will be increased by 400,000 euros a year in the future.

Representatives of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board have attended the Open de France Golf Tournament, near Versailles.The tournament celebrated its 10th edition this year, and its main attraction was legendary golfer Severiano Ballesteros’s comeback.

Low-cost airlines – Spain, 2005

This study is aimed at quantifying inflow of foreign travellers flying with low-cost airlines’ in 2005 using Aena’s records, characterising the data and finding a pattern in them, after the variables included in the Survey of Tourism Expenditure carried out by the Institute of Tourism Studies. (The study presented this week is in Spanish).

Hotel occupancy rates –Province of Málaga, May 2006

463,083 travellers stayed in hotels on the Costa del Sol in May 2006, i.e. 15.07% more than in May 2005, when the region received 402,436 tourists.

Vueling Airlines strengthens presence in Andalusia for the summer

As a response to the growing demand for flights in the summer, Vueling Airlines will increase operations in Andalusia, expecting to carry more than 230,000 passengers from June to September in the more than 1,600 flights it will operate in the Seville, Málaga and Granada Airports.
